TAG is a group of professionals, activists, and academics with an interest in transparency and the right to information, and with the common objective of promoting transparency in governance by advising and lobbying governments and other stakeholders, especially in the South Asian region. It also conducts research and organises meetings and consultations on transparency related issues. TAG has, as members, retired and serving senior officials, information commissioners, activists and academics from South Asian countries, and from Mexico, Canada, UK, Australia, South Africa, Singapore and the USA.

 TAG evolved over two years: it was conceived in April 2010, its formation announced in March 2011, and it started formally functioning from September 2012.

New Addition:
Dr. Iffat Idris, from Pakistan, has taken over as the Co-chair of TAG from Mr. Shekhar Singh who has stepped down.
Dr. Shamsul Bari will continue as the second Co- chair.
Ms. Anjali Bharadwaj (India), Ms Mariyam Shiuna (Maldives), Mr Zahid Abdullah (Pakistan) and Mr Mukhtar Ahmed Ali (Pakistan) have been elected as members of TAG.

A two volume publication entitled "Empowerment through Information", jointly published by TAG and Research Initiatives, Bangladesh (RIB) was released at the TAG workshop in Dhaka (18-19 February, 2015).

                                                                                            TAG 2015 Conference Report
The sixth TAG conference was held in Dhaka in February 2015.  As well as  looking at developments in relation to RTI in individual countries in the South Asia region, the conference discussed a number of 'cross-cutting' issues in the context of RTI: the role of the media, raising awareness among women, including the private sector and political parties within the scope of RTI provisions, and establishing backward (e.g. proper records management) and forward (e.g. anti-corruption bodies) linkages with RTI regimes.  The full conference proceedings report and a summary version (including the meeting resolution) are available below.
